Sponsor a black cockatoo which will be released by yourself!

Did you know that you can sponsor a rehabilitated Kaarakin black cockatoo?

Each year, Kaarakin Black Cockatoo Conservation Centre releases a number of black cockatoos back into the wild after they have been rehabilitated following their rescue and recovery from injury. Each release location is carefully selected, and studies have shown that released birds will quickly rejoin a local flock and continue living their lives as wild cockatoos.

Some of our past releases have included birds that have been fitted with state-of-the-art GPS trackers by Murdoch University for the Black Cockatoo Conservation Project. This program has helped researchers to study the migration and nesting habits of local black cockatoos.

If you would like to help Kaarakin to continue its work rehabilitating our native wildlife, why not sponsor a bird?

Each Sponsor & Release package grants the opportunity for the sponsor to:

  • Name their adopted cockatoo
  • To attend at the release
  • To have the honour of releasing their bird.
  • A sponsorship certificate
  • A private tour of our centre for a group of 10 people max

If the release date is not suitable for you to attend, you will be offered to attend the release of another black cockatoo, and the right to name this black cockatoo.

Hear from Anne who released a black cockatoo back to the wild!

“On Monday, 16th December, I was privileged to be chosen to release one of our rehabilitated Red Tail Cockatoos. The release was scheduled for 6.30pm in the John Forrest National Park. As I drove to the site and waited, it was so amazing to see a flock of wild Red Tail Cockatoos waiting in the tall trees. It was as if they knew something magical was about to happen. The pet packs with the birds were all lined up and prepped to be open on the count of 3,2 1. We all opened the doors and the sound of our Red Tail Cockatoos screeching as they were released and flew to meet the wild birds, was something I will never forget. Most of our released birds were juveniles and to see them fly free and join with the wild Red Tails was such an amazing and emotional experience. I hope to be involved in many more releases. A massive thanks to Georgia, Louise and the clinic volunteers who work tirelessly to ensure that our rescued cockatoos can be rehabilitated and released.”
