Education

We often do demonstrations in and around the metro area at schools and community groups. Each demonstration includes a talk from a Kaarakin staff member or volunteer and a live black cockatoo to interact with.

Schools

Kaarakin Education caters for both incursions and excursions for primary, secondary and tertiary groups. We can visit your classroom to discuss black cockatoos, answer questions and introduce you to one of our education cockatoos. These sessions generally last about 30 – 45 minutes depending on the age of the student group and link in with the Western Australian Curriculum in biological sciences, geography and sustainability.

If you are looking to get involved with conservation activities, meet with Australian native fauna or learn more about the workings of Kaarakin, we welcome groups to come and visit us. Our excursion programs run for 2 – 3 hours and can include one of our incursion programs, a guided site tour to meet our cockatoos, dingoes, emus and kangaroos along with getting involved with conservation activities if desired.

For more information on our incursion and excursion programs please view our Kaarakin Education Program Guide or contact our Education Officer.

Community Groups

Are you a member of scouts, ‘friend’s of’ group, environmental club or similar? We can do static displays at shows and conferences, or a focus talk at a monthly meeting. Contact our Education Officer to discuss dates and what you need.
