Your school or community group can discover black cockatoos first hand at Kaarakin’s educational experiences. Learn about the black cockatoos who share your local environment, how to identify them, why they’re endangered, what we can do to help them, and who ate that gumnut.

Educational experiences link in with the Western Australian curriculum in biological sciences, geography and sustainability. We have resources such as fact sheets and videos that can assist with lesson planning and delivery.

We can even come to you.

Visiting Kaarakin

A 3 hour experience at Kaarakin, including a site tour, presentation inside our education building, some conservation-based activities, as well as arts and crafts. All groups experience a black cockatoo in the room or visit the interactive aviary*. High school students can also share a dingo encounter.

Everyone will need to wear closed shoes and sun protection. Bring your water bottle. Leave jewellery at home.

Primary school students (years 1-6) are $12 per person. Secondary school students (years 7-12) are $14 per person. Teachers and supporting staff are free. Minimum charge of 20 students. Stays beyond the booked session are an additional $5 per person per hour or part thereof.

At your school

An interactive presentation by Kaarakin’s Education Officer with an ambassador black cockatoo – so you still get to experience a live bird – across a 2 hour session.

We’ll need a room or sheltered area to fit a maximum 50 students – it’s about that simple.

We’ll come to you to deliver the session for your students within the Perth metro area for $350 if within 30 minutes travel of Kaarakin, or $400 for further distances.
