Nine Baudins Released

It was a happy payday for our volunteers when we released nine Baudin’s cockatoos in Kalamunda.

A number of the birds had tracking devices fitted to them. Murdoch University is doing a study to see where these birds go and how they are coping.   Murdoch researchers have been coming to Kaarakin, working closely with Lou and Rachel to trial new trackers and determine what data they can collect and which ones least impeded the birds flight.   The information they will collect will be vital to the study of these birds and possibly their survival in the wild.

Jill had sponsored and named a bird in memory of a friend she recently lost. She was on hand to release Froggey. This is a new concept for people wanting to be involved you can sponsor a release bird and name and set it free for $1000.00. It’s a rare opportunity to have the privilege to do so as their numbers are limited.
